Why should I consider Ms. Sarafian to be my therapist?
Picking a therapist can be the most important part of the therapy process. You want to choose someone that you feel comfortable with, that repects the values that you believe in and offers knowledge and insight. This is what I provide to clients, and it’s why many of my clients refer friends and family members.
How do I know if I could benefit from therapy?
Somehow you arrived at this website so it is safe to assume that you are struggling in some area of your life. Therapy is designed to provide you with the tools needed to deal with the situations that are troubling you, and to help you overcome these issues.
What kinds of issues can therapy address?
It is ideal for relationship or communication difficulties, habit changing, working through difficult times, and improving perspectives for a more fulfilling, harmonious life.
How often do I come and for how long?
Most people meet once a week or every other week. In times of crisis or during a very difficult period, twice a week sessions may be beneficial for a limited time. As people feel better and become more adept at applying the tools learned, they may continue on a once or twice monthly basis.
What about confidentiality?
Everything discussed in session is completely confidential. There are strict laws governing confidentiality in therapy. What is said in the session stays in the session. No communication is made outside of the session unless expressly requested and the client signs a waiver of confidentiality.
There are specific guidelines for exceptions to this rule. The first is when a person’s life is in foreseeable danger through homicidal or suicidal ideation. The second involves suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or person who is unable to care for themselves. The final exception is when records are required under a valid court order. Under these circumstances, the counselor must inform the client of the court order.
What is the cost of a therapy session?
The fee for a 50 minute session is $100. The standard policy is to receive payment at the time of the session and provide a receipt for submission to your insurance company for reimbursement. Most non-HMO insurance companies will reimburse for services rendered, though it is advisable to check with your insurance company to verify outpatient mental health coverage. Special arrangements may be made, subject to my approval, for billing an insurance company directly.
